Good HousekeepingOther than that, we have to point at that psychedelic paisley carpet and realize what an obstacle that would pose for anyone under the influence. It’s moving every time look at it, but at least that banister looks absolutely solid. Good HousekeepingIt looks like some modern electronics have made it into the room, and when they renovated, they likely sealed off the fireplace in favor of that heater. Somehow the coil one behind that incredibly awesome lamp is still in the room, as are at least two speakers the size of small refrigerators.

It took my husband and brother in law a full day on the upstairs bathroom. And the bath tub was this wierd square shape but it wasn't 'fully' open. If we can't go crazy every once in awhile then life isn't worth living.

Nine.com.auIn 2016 this 1954 home was put on the market for $900,000, and even though it resides on Pinocchio Drive, we’re not lying about the fact that 100,000 people walked through it. The paint and the style on the outside is the mere cover to the book, as the real treasure lies within. Here we see another set of letters, this time from 1956, and the stamp for a letter-sized envelope was only 0.3 pounds.

William Jr. moved out of the house in 1985, and when he died in 1990, it was turned over to the National Trust. The first morning I woke up in the house, before breakfast, I started pulling that stuff off. The chandelier in the dining room we had to update the electric on - you can't buy an antique like that for the $500 we had to pay to have someone restore it. The kitchen leads through to the dining area, featuring a four-seater dining set flanked by large patio doors that open out onto the garden. The '60s flooring follows through from the kitchen, a boon for any fans of vintage design. Located in England's East Midlands region, the house was left to the National Trust when William died and has been maintained in its original style for visitors. Even during their lifetime, the Straws were extremely thrifty and never threw anything away, keeping everything in top working order so there was no need to replace their old things with new.
Daily MailRoll-top baths were common in the era, and that goes for the wooden rack holding a pumice stone, pear soap, and scrubbing brush. Though almost everything else in the house was heated by wood fire, it’s likely the Straw house had a gas water heater, as they became common in upscale homes after they were invented in 1889. New walls, floors, windows, and staircases followed, while a former outbuilding was transformed into a stunning summerhouse. They didn't update it for sale, but a company came in, redid the kitchen and bathrooms, did some updating of surfaces , cleaned up the yard, and flipped it for a nice profit. If it seems like it might need a total overhaul, it might be better to just clear it out and let someone else update and resell it.
Not only is the same oven in the kitchen, but we can see the same counters, floor, and cabinets. What is striking is that everything is original, is over 50 years old, and looks like it’s brand new. Daily MailThe skylight and giant window next to the front door ensure that there’s plenty of light flooding into the house. The front door entry area is also constructed as some sort of an air lock, but again, security is not provided when both doors are made of glass.
Having undergone a top-quality refit in the 1950s, only two people have owned the property in over 100 years. The family loved the décor and mid-century features so much that they kept them in place to this day. While the acoustic ceiling tiles haven't weathered the years especially well, the property's other original features, including the flooring and built-in furniture, look to be in a reasonable condition. The only part of the house that takes a break from the swathes of red is the nostaglic vintage kitchen. Decorated with mustard yellow counters, an orange window blind and dark wood cabinets, it's also fitted with original appliances and a suspended ceiling.
Another staircase leads down to a huge open-plan lounge, which boasts a vaulted ceiling, dining zone and an eye-catching carpet in pink and green. Located on a cliffside within three-acre grounds, this '50s gem was designed by self-taught architect, Nelson Keem Sr., and it’s been owned by the same family since it was built. While the home's exterior is decorated with panelling, a cantilevered roof and thin, textured bricks, the inside is almost too good to be true. Spanning an impressive 3,479 square feet, the four-bedroom home is laid out over four broken-plan floors, all linked by staircases covered in deep shag pile carpets. Heading upstairs into one of four brightvintage bedroomsand it's clear that peacock blue inspired this brave decorator from the past. The silk curtains and bedding have been colour-matched to the bold motif wallpaper and walls, while an old-fashioned TV sits on an adjustable stand.
